How To Convert PNG To JPG – This Is How It Works

Want to save space by converting an image from PNG to JPG? Then we’ll show you two practical tools here.

The significantly smaller file size of JPG is useful in many ways. You can send the File more quickly via email or use it as an email signature. Microsoft offers its program, Paint, to convert images into JPG format – unfortunately, the quality suffers, and you have no options to change the metadata of the image.

That’s why we’re showing you two free graphics tools that you can use to convert PNG to JPG without sacrificing quality easily. These include the free tool IrfanView and the popular, free, open-source program GIMP.

How to convert PNG to JPG with IrfanView

  • Step 1: Open IrfanView and click on ” File ” and ” Open ” in the menu bar to open the image you want in PNG format.
  • 2nd step: Find the image you want to convert. The file type selection should be set to ” Common graphic files ” or ” PNG ” so that you can easily find the File. Then click on “Open”.
  • 3rd step: When your desired image is displayed, go back to ” File “> ” Save As … ” to convert your image.
  • 4th step: Give your picture a file name and select ” File type “> ” JPG – JPG / JPEG format “. In the window that opens, you can still adjust the quality of the JPG image. The following applies here: the higher the quality, the more storage space the File requires. Finally, click on ” Save “. Your picture will now be converted to JPG format.

How to convert PNG to JPG with GIMP

  • Step 1: First, open the picture you want to edit. To do this, go to ” File ” and ” Open ” in the menu bar and select the desired image. Alternatively, press [Ctrl] + [O] .
  • 2nd step: To convert the image into JPG format, go to ” Export as ” via ” File ” again.
  • 3rd step: Name the picture. The file extension must end in. JPG so that the image is also converted. Click on ” Export “.
  • 4th step: You now have the option of adjusting the quality of the image using a slider. The same applies here: the higher the quality, the more storage space the File uses. When done, click ” Export ” again.

  1. First, go to ” File “> ” Open “.
  2. Find the PNG image and click Open.
  3. Choose File> Save As “.
  4. Change the file type to ” JPG – JPG / JPEG Format “. Select the desired quality and confirm with ” Save “.
